Find the right issues and focus each view

Use the actual search, type filter, board selector and roadmap controls to reduce noise without changing the work itself. Start from the question you need to answer, inspect the result count, and clear temporary filters before a full planning or progress review.

In the appBoards / Backlog → Search issues → All types → Clear issue filters

What you’ll learn

  • Search across issue text and people fields.
  • Combine query terms with an issue type.
  • Verify counts and restore the full view.

In this guide
  1. Choose the view that answers the question
  2. Search by key, words or a person
  3. Combine the query with an issue type
  4. Open a result before acting on it
  5. Focus the roadmap with its own controls
  6. Clear temporary filters and verify the full picture

01

Choose the view that answers the question

Use Boards for status and daily progress, Backlog for ordering and sprint membership, and Roadmap for hierarchy and dates. Open the appropriate project page through its navigation tabs. In Boards or Roadmap, confirm the selected named record using Select board or Select roadmap. This establishes the view’s context before interpreting a missing issue or a filtered result.

02

Search by key, words or a person

In Boards or Backlog, type into Search issues. Search checks the issue key, title, description, assignee and reporter, ignoring case. Multiple words are matched together: every entered word must occur somewhere in those searchable fields. Try a distinctive key or a person’s name first, then add a second term if you need a narrower result.

03

Combine the query with an issue type

Open All types and choose Epic, Story, Task, Sub-task or Bug as needed. The type filter and text query apply together, so a Bug selection plus a person’s name narrows the current view to matching bugs. Watch the count beside the controls: a filtered result shows the visible number against the view’s total rather than deleting other issues.

04

Open a result before acting on it

Open a matching card or row and confirm its key, Status and Sprint in Details. Search terms can match a description or reporter even when the title looks unrelated. If no results appear, broaden the query or restore All types before concluding that work is missing. For backlog ordering, inspect the full list before moving a filtered subset.

05

Focus the roadmap with its own controls

In Roadmap, use the layer selector to focus relevant outcomes, collapse branches for a shorter tree and adjust the time scale from Day to Half Year. Layer filtering preserves related hierarchy, so some context rows can remain visible. Use Column Settings to reveal fields needed for the discussion and Today to return from a distant time period.

06

Clear temporary filters and verify the full picture

Use Clear issue filters beside Search issues to reset both query and type. Confirm the count returns to the unfiltered total and previously hidden rows reappear. In Roadmap, restore the layer selection needed for the complete review and expand relevant branches. These controls focus the current view; check them again when reopening a page before interpreting its contents.

What you will have

A focused, verified view of the work and a reliable way to restore the complete project picture after the review.
